It is more than likely due to your system taking part in Grid Services.
Social Energy LTD are the only supplier to offer credits for balancing the National Grid. These are called Grid Service payments and these are paid directly into your bank account once a month.
Grid Services are when your battery, in a group with other Social Energy customer batteries, are being used to provide fast frequency response for the National Grid. The grid must maintain a frequency of 50hz which will fluctuate based on the power situation in the UK. Too much energy within the grid will cause the frequency to go over 50hz and not enough can result in it going below 50hz if there isn’t enough power.
Your battery will be used to help maintain the frequency which you will receive credit payments for when helping to provide this service.
It’s a common misconception that grid balancing is a one-off occurrence. It's actually happening all the time. This means your battery will never fully charge or discharge. The reason for this is to ensure there is enough space in your battery to be able to charge up from the grid or always ensuring there is enough energy left in your battery to pass back to the grid when needed. The clever AI does all this and then lets you use the rest of the energy in the most cost-effective way.
You will notice your battery doing different things when you are providing grid balancing services. You will see import and export to the grid at different times during the day that might be different to what you are used to seeing before you were providing this service.
Although there could be a small cost for doing by potentially additional increasing your imported energy, this it will be outweighed by the credit payments you’ll get.
The good news is that by optimising your battery to never get totally empty or full up, it also helps to improve the life of your battery.
