Great news, we’ve started our smart meter roll-out. If you haven’t heard from us yet we’ll get in touch as soon as we're ready to install your 2nd generation (SMETS 2) smart meter.
A small number of customers may have to wait a while before we can install a smart meter. The possible causes of delay are detailed below:
There aren't yet any 5-terminal or 3-phase SMETs2 smart meters available. So if you require either of these sorts of meters, we won't be able to install a smart meter for you until these models are available. We anticipate that they may become available towards the end of 2020.
Most parts of the country are now covered- in the central and southern regions 97.25% of homes are covered, and in the North 99.25% of homes are covered. If you're in the one of the few areas that's not yet covered, speak to our team and we can check the expected start date in your area.
North of England
Around 2% of households in the North of England need a different kind of comms hub (the device which sits on top of the electricity meter which enables the meters to communicate) to avoid interfering with signals around the Flyingdales RAF base. The new model of comms hub suitable for use in your area is expected to become available in Q2 2020.
If you think you might be affected by one of these issues and won't be able to get a smart meter, don't panic! To make sure you don't miss out while you’re waiting for your smart meter, we launched a new pre-trading tariff in June 2019 which fixes your energy costs at a lower rate for the first 12 months while we get everything in place to maximise your savings.
